Turtle crochet toy (or key ring)

I wanted to add someone to our family of mini toys. So here it is - Scary Mary :)

This is a very easy pattern. All you need is:

1. crochet hook (I used 3,5 mm)
2. yarn - green, gray and black
3. stitch marker
4. needles for sewing and embroidering the face
5. something for stuffing
6. scissors
7. good mood and patience when your children want you to finish it as soon as possible :)

Abbreviations:

mr - magic ring

sc - single crochet

inc - increase

dec - decrease (invisible decrease preferred)

st - stitch

slst - slip stitch

BODY

- start with green yarn

1. start with 6 sc in mr (6)
2. inc in all st (12)
3. *sc in next st, inc* repeat (18)
4. *sc in next 2 st, inc* repeat (24)
5. *sc in next 3 st, inc* repeat (30)
6. *sc in next 4 st, inc* repeat (36)
7. sc in all st (36)
8. sc in all st (36), join with slst to next st
9. crochet to the 7th round of the body *dec, sc in next 4 st* repeat (30)
10. change to gray yarn *dec, sc in next 3 st* repeat (24)
11. *dec, sc in next 2 st* repeat (18)
12. sc in all st (18)
13. *dec, sc in next st* repeat (12)
14. stuff the body, dec all around until you can close, finish off and hide the tail into the body

HEAD

- in gray yarn

1. start with 6 sc in mr (6)
2. inc in all st (12)
3. *sc in next st, inc* repeat (18)
4. *sc in next 2 st, inc* repeat (24)
5. sc in all st (24)
6. *dec, sc in next 2 st* repeat (18)
7. sc in all st (18)
8. *dec, sc in next st* repeat (12)
9. sc in all st (12)
10. stuff the head, dec in next 8 st, sc in next 4 st (8)
11. sc in all st (8), join with slst to next st, finish off and leave a tail for sewing the head to the body

FRONT LEGS (make 2)

- in gray yarn

1. start with 6 sc in mr (6)
2. inc in all st (12)
3. *sc in next st, inc* repeat (18)
4. *dec, sc in next st* repeat (12)
5. sc in all st (12)
6. *dec, sc in next 2 st* repeat (9), join with slst to next st, finish off and leave a tail for sewing the legs to the body, stuff the legs

BACK LEGS (make 2)

- in gray yarn

1. start with 6 sc in mr (6)
2. inc in all st (12)
3. sc in all st (12)
4. *dec, sc in next st* repeat (8), join with slst to next st, finish off and leave a tail for sewing the legs to the body, stuff the legs

Sew all the parts together and embroider the face. Be happy for the result :)

Zoomigurumi (book review)

As I wanted to try to make some crochet toys (finally), I was looking for a book with cute animals to make. I decided for Zoomigurumi.

When I first opened the book I was excited to go through it. Such beautiful animals like Wasabi the bunny, Dakota the dog, Johnny the monkey, Leila the pony, or Tara the cat with their stories and character description were speaking to me: "Pick me, pick me, crochet me, I want to be the first toy you will crochet". :) And then I picked a few of them and I am planning to crochet more ;).

The instructions for crocheting are very easy to follow. I also appreciated the information about the invisible decrease as I didn't know about it. Now I do and all my decreases are invisible now :).

I love this book and it belongs to my crochet bible collection. When you want to try something new and easy, and very cute, this book is the best choice.
